Margarita Escobar March 12, 2012 Reflection
On March 9, 2012, I did a self-video of me teaching Unit 15 Lesson 6 which focused on the students learning about same area shapes that had different perimeter. I started the lesson by showing an interactive video that I used as a tool to help the students understand the concept that was being taught. While watching the video I noted that I was sometimes unsure of what I would say next. I would stutter or forget the word I was going to say. There wasn’t a flow that I expected to have. My stuttering caused awkward pauses in the lesson. Some of my strengths I feel were that I asked specific questions and I always had the students explain their answers. I feel that I was very thorough with my expectations for them and I also repeated questions more than once for those students who had difficulty understanding. There was a moment where there was a malfunction with the interactive video and I was able to keep my cool and continue the lesson without losing control of the classroom. This video helped me see that I do have certain strengths that I was unaware of such as constant positive feedback and it also helped me see the areas that might not be as strong as I thought. Now that I have outlined them , I will work on them and continue to grow.
